چکیده

The axial tissues of the vertebrate embryo is a term that refers collectively to the floor plate (a cell population that lies at the ventral floor of the neural tube) and the notochord (which is a mesodermal rod of cells located immediately ventral to the floor plate). The notochord and floor plate both secrete the morphogen signal Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) that patterns the dorsoventral axis of the neural tube. Moreover the ability of both tissues to induce floor plate differentiation is mediated by Shh. These two tissues are believed to derive from a common progenitor pool which is located in Hensen’s node in the chick embryo. Hensen’s node develops at the anterior tip of the primitive streak. Some of these progenitor cells remain in the node as resident stem cells. It is unclear how the progenitor cells in Hensen’s node become committed to either the notochord or floor plate cell fate. The Notch signalling pathway is a key player in binary cell fate choice in numerous other developmental contexts in the developing vertebrate and invertebrate embryo and we have found this pathway plays a role in the cell fate decision that occurs in the axial tissue precursors in Hensen’s node. We also show that Notch signalling modulates the response of neural cells to the morphogen Shh.

Genome-wide computational prediction of miRNAs in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) revealed target genes involved in pulmonary vasculature and antiviral innate immunity

The current outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)in China threatened humankind worldwide. The coronaviruses contains the largest RNA genome among all other known RNA viruses, therefore the disease etiology can be understood by analyzing the genome sequence of SARS-CoV-2. In this study, we used an ab-intio based computational tool VMir to scan the complete geno...

Expression of hsp90 Alpha and hsp90 Beta during Xenopus laevis Embryonic Development

Background: Members of the eukaryotic Hsp90 family function as important molecular chaperones in the assembly, folding and activation of cellular signaling in development. Two hsp90 genes, hsp90 alpha and hsp90 beta, have been identified in fish and homeothermic vertebrates but not in poikilothermic vertebrates. In the present study, the expression of hsp90 alpha and hsp90 beta genes in Xenopus...

Integrin Linked Kinase (X-ILK) Function during Embryonic Development and within Adult Tissues of Xenopus laevis

Integrin linked kinase (ILK) is a serine/threonine protein kinase implicated in the phosphatidylinositol 3’kinase (PI3’K) pathway. Integrin linked kinase has been investigated in different organisms such as mammalian systems (human, mice, rat), insects (Drosophila) and nematodes (Cenorhabditis elegans), however to date little data regarding ILK research on amphibians has been reported. In...

Xmc Mediates Xctr1-Independent Morphogenesis in Xenopus laevis†

In the frog, Xenopus laevis, fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling is required for both mesoderm formation and the morphogenetic movements that drive the elongation of the notochord, a dorsal mesodermal derivative; the coordination of these distinct roles is mediated by the Xenopus Ctr1 (Xctr1) protein: maternal Xctr1 is required for mesodermal differentiation, while the subsequent loss of X...
